Technological gap in allspice (Pimenta dioica L. Merr) production

Objective: To study the technological features of allspice pepper (Pimenta dioica L. Merr) production and to show potential areas social intervention in crop. Methodology: The took place five 22 producing municipalities Veracruz state, Mexico, selected by non-probabilistic sampling; n = 50 surveys were applied producers following snowball method. Data collected on profile unit knowledge-practice for innovations. Descriptive statistics applied; rates indices calculated. A classification opportunity was made based diffusion innovations theory. Results: Allspice occupies small areas, its a complementary crop; knowledge practice that categories marketing, organization nutrition are lowest; opposite direction harvesting, sustainable management agronomic management. intervention, less known practiced innovations; as well reinvention categories. Study limitations: Due difficult access producer databases, it decided conduct sampling Conclusions: increase determined restructuring role played pepper, occupied surface presence other commercial crops can explain state production.
